Saw palmetto

Saw palmetto can be found in southern Europe, Africa and in the coastal regions of southeast America. It is a small palm tree that produces fruit in clusters. It is the fruit that is used for medical purposes after it is dried. Among the most beneficial ingredients of the plant are sterols and fatty acids.

In many western countries saw palmetto is used for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) symptoms. BPH affects aging men and causes symptoms such as frequent urination, need to urinate during the night, urine leakage, difficulty maintaining or starting urination.

Some men experience a relief for BPH symptoms thanks to saw palmetto. However, this plant cannot reduce the size of the prostate.

Many herbalists use saw palmetto as a diuretic, an anti-inflammatory, a sedative and an antiseptic. According to a large number of reports, saw palmetto also stimulates the growth of hair. In addition, many women use the plant to enhance their breast size.

Saw palmetto is available as liquid, tablets or capsules. No matter what the form is, products should contain an 80% standardization of fatty acids. The recommended dosage is from 320 mg to 1800 mg a day. Results will be noticeable after a month and a half of usage.

The combination of saw palmetto and different other products may lead to internal bleeding, so you should consult your doctor before you use saw palmetto.
