Cancer is the modern infliction that plagues millions of people worldwide. There is no unified conclusion about what causes this serious disease. However, it is believed that a healthy lifestyle could be beneficial in terms of cancer prevention. What does a healthy lifestyle mean? In order to life in a healthy way, you need to avoid certain harmful foods, to limit alcohol and cigarettes and to exercise on a regular base. Another thing you can do is to add cancer-preventing herbs to your daily menu.

Research has found that certain herbs possess properties that fight cancer cells and obstruct their growth. Some of these herbs are grown in our gardens and most of us are not familiar with their potentials. Here is a list of beneficial herbs that can stimulate cancer prevention.

Rosemary is one herbal plant which we usually use in cooking. The leaves of this herb contain terpenes – fatty acids that produce the typical fragrance of rosemary. Terpenes are known to stop the reproduction of cancer cells.

Parsley is another green herb used in cooking but usually overlooked by many people. However, parsley contains the natural oil apigenine which can successfully prevent angiogenesis – the growth of blood vessels supplying tumours with nutrients. The presence of apigenine in the system stimulates the reduction of the blood supply to tumours. This function of apigenine is similar to the function of the prescription medication Avastin.

Thyme is a very popular herb with more than 350 species all over the world. It has been widely used in medicine for centuries. Modern studies show that thyme possesses strong cancer-preventative properties. This herb is rich in thymol which is a terpene with anti-cancer properties. In addition, thyme is a powerful antioxidant and can be also used as an antibacterial and antiseptic agent.

Arnica is among the most widely used herbs. It is a popular remedy that is often used in homeopathy and thus herb has numerous applications.

Arnica can be found in the mountains of Europe, as well as in the western parts of North America. It is a perennial herb that can grow up to two feet. Its stems are round and hairy, and they end in 1-3 flower stalks. The flowers look like daisies and have yellow-orange color.
Europeans and North Americans have been familiar with the qualities of arnica and have been using it for a long time. The herb is mostly valued because of its soothing potential. Thus, an arnica ointment is used to relive the pain and to reduce inflammation, while a tincture can treat open wounds.
Scientists have found that arnica contains helenalin and dihydrohelenalin. These two substances produce the famous anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of the herb.
There is a great demand about arnica and in Europe this herb is cultivated in order to fill this demand. According to some estimations three hundred tinctures, ointments and remedies that contain arnica are produced only for the German market.
Arnica is used externally only. Internal use of the herb is not recommended because it may cause cardiac toxicity. Severe side effects are very common if arnica is taken orally. However, if the herb is used externally, it is very beneficial in cases of inflammations of the throat region, inflammations caused by insect bites, and superficial phlebitis.
If you want to prepare arnica infusion you need about 2 g of the herb per 100 ml water. Arnica oil can be made of 1 part of the herb and 5 parts fatty oil. Keep in mind that continuous usage of arnica on damage skin areas may cause dermatitis. In this case, you should stop using the herb immediately.

It is used in vitiated conditions kapha and vita, anorexia, weight loss, wounds, ulcers, dyspepsia, latulence. It is widely used for Psychotropic and ornamental purposes. Argyreia nervosa seeds contain about 0.3% ergot alkaloids, including chanoclavine, lysergol, and Ergin ergotmetrine. These are all derivatives of lysergic acid, and most are collectively named lysergic acid amides (LSA). LSD (lysergic acid Diiethylamide) is also a lysergic acid amide and himself as lysergic acid amide natural in both structure and pharmacological activity, it was not found in nature. Many of the ergot alkaloids can cause constriction of blood vessels, which can cause tissue necrosis and gangrene in humans and animals.
